I just came back from Trader Joes. The clerk asked if I were using cash or card? I answered credit, and he replied that I should insert a chip in the slot. His question actually confused me because I ended up using Android Pay instead. "Oh, a phone!"
They did the same thing the first time I was there with EMV enabled, which I think might have been the day it was turned on. I suspect they're not seeing many contactless transactions, and the "cash or card" question is a preamble to telling people paying by card to insert chip cards.
