Depending on how many miles you already have it might not make sense to "start over". AA redemption is not as good as AS, but if you have high 5's or low 6 figure mileage balance already, I would lean toward continuing to build that versus starting over, if earning redeemable miles is your primary goal.
I have 30k miles with AA right now but I just signed up for their CC to get 40k more. If I plan on redeeming those 70k miles this year from AA, does it then make sense to "start over" with AS at the beginning of they year?
