My Aviator opened a year ago last week. Less than $1k spend.
Called and spoke with a front line CSR. Said that I was thinking about changing it to a no-annual fee version, or closing the account. My info was verified. I was transferred to a specialist.
The specialist read me all the wonderful benefits of the card. I said that I was still thinking of closing it because Citi can offer me the same for a year. I was then offered to have the annual fee waived, which I accepted. Also offered an extra mile for months for gas, groceries, and utilities, which I accepted. Also offered six months of interest fee financing, which I declined. Also got a modest CLI from $5K to $7.5K. Asked for an APR reduction, because why not, but was told that it was an annual fee waiver or an APR reduction. I'm keeping the sky-high APR.
