A Nova Scotia man is questioning why Air Canada is continuing to bill customers for fuel surcharges after he had to pay almost $800 in extra fees for a flight he booked with Aeroplan points.
Geoff Ardern originally booked the flight earlier this year but was forced to cancel because of his health. When he re-booked his business-class seat from Halifax to Manchester, England, it cost him 75,000 Aeroplan miles plus hundreds of dollars in cash.
His flight left Halifax for Montreal, gave him a nine-hour layover, and then flew to Frankfurt before finally reaching Manchester.
He said the money was for "combined taxes, fees, charges and surcharges."
"You can't figure out from that fare calculation what that means anyway, but the total is $781.30, of which $697 is a fuel surcharge," Ardern said.
What are the two levels of Aeroplan rewards referred to above? My recollection is that market fare and classic rewards both incur surcharges etc.
