Does anyone have any experience with the surfboard requirements with Delta. 112 linear inches is crazy, it basically excludes all longboards and SUP's. I'm almost a million miler with Delta and this is on the policy I can't stand with them.

I've seen longboards making it on the flight, so is it just the luck of the draw on who the attendant is when checking in? I'm going to probably use a steward to move it through without incident, just wanting to know any personal experiences before I fly to CR without a board.
