A couple of points:
  1. Doug Parker is pretty smart too. He started with America West and has been buying his way up to being one of the big 4. And now he is there running the world's largest airline. He came very close to sitting in Mr. Woolman's chair. (Though that result might have suited the WorldPerks folks better as there would have been a good chance for NWA to merge with Continental. )
  2. Delta is spending money on shiny new aircraft as well. The 739s are coming cheap. The large widebody order with Airbus - not nearly so cheap.
