Nepal was much more fascinating than I expected. There are a lot of world heritage sites near Kathmandu. I went pre earthquake, so you'd want to check on conditions now. Also, I wonder what December weather is.

I've traveled extensively in Sri Lanka. I really enjoyed the cultural heart of the island. There's little to do in Colombo itself.
