I fly UA on LAX/SFO-SYD-LAX/SFO in J a good bit and usually there are people changing into PJ's even on the flights back to the US during the day since UA doesn't provide any. I personally prefer to change into a t-shirt and basketball shorts, but that's me. Nobody really judges. It's just a matter of what you want to be sleeping in for the flight. I've seen plenty of people walk on the plane in J wearing a sport coat and sweatpants.
