I find the US duty free situation strange. I n Hawaii and San Fransico there were massive stores in town, like in Australia, however I've not come across it on the east coast. Is this to do with the Japanese market maybe?</font>
Is this a company called "Duty Free Shoppers"? They attracted some attention in Hong Kong near the time of the new airport's opening, something to do (IIRC) with losing the airport franchise that they'd had at Kai Tak.
In HK, they also have big shops in town, selling goods at cheap prices. Despite the name of the shop, these were never duty free. They just sourced their goods from very cheap suppliers, apparently. The coachloads of Japanese tourists who were their main target never seemed either to know or care.
Same outfit? Same method?
