I would call and ask. It's not like they are going to individually 'monitor' your account based on the call. Either its good or its not, the policy is already written. AMEX would know best. Have a specific example ready for them that you think _should_ qualify based on what you've read in the T&C's.

Based strictly on what you posted here, it sounds like a charitable contribution made not in-flight qualifies. Made in flight would not.
