I gifted my husband silver (from my 2016 PM choice). Wanted to gift gold from my DM choice but don't want to choose the other gift yet as I'm not sure I will be taking a trip where I could use a GUC (don't fly international much). I usually take the miles as a gift but I'm traveling more and 4 or 5 times a year my husband meets me somewhere. When he is traveling solo he'll get free bags, a slightly better seat, and boarding earlier than when he had no status.
