Hm, it depends on how you look at it: It's pretty close to the security checkpoint, but it's quite far away from the gates. Regardless of how you look at it, it's pretty much on your way from check-in to the gate.

As previously posted, I'm not a fan of the new T2 (or T5 for that matter). It's probably a slight improvement for the average traveller (longer walks, but overall nicer/better facilities), but T3 worked perfectly well for status customers: efficient line-skipping, reasonable lounge, reasonably short walks, ability to avoid the ridiculously overcrowded seating areas and the holding pens at the gate.
