I do have a bag in the hold for this trip, but given the damage to my case the last time I did LGW-JER, perhaps hand baggage is the safest place for them

not sure about the meat component, but I have freshly taken freshly baked cheesecakes on board (hand baggage for sure) before. Ice packs can only be brought through security when
completely solid. Gel packs are a no-go. Lastly, I've only had dry ice US-Europe and not the other way around so I can't comment on ex-LHR on that one, but TSA limit is 5 lbs. of dry ice with proper ventilation.
Once on board, if traveling on CW, I kindly ask the CSM once everyone has settled in, if they have any extra room in their galley to keep it cool. It's a hit or miss depending on the crew, but most usually say yes (even moreso if I play the "relative's birthday" card).
