I've never done subway only from PVG, always the Maglev combo, but several times to PVG when heading to an airport hotel for the night before my departure next morning.

When coming off a longhaul flight or having a same day departure, the VIP section of the Maglev appeals for it's calm atmosphere so I still gladly pay the extra and enjoy my quiet seven or so minutes in either direction.

Another matter is, I do not book hotels around People's Square anymore. Don't even like it as an office location as the surroundings are too touristy.

Either Lujiazui, Xujiahui or Zhabei for my hotel stays, depending on the occasion...
