Options for hitting 36K CP qualifying miles by EOY?
Hi all! I've started to read the FAQ, and read the Companion Pass thread, so I hope I'm not making a rookie faux pas by overlooking any existing threads that cover this already.
I picked up a SW RR card in mid-October with the intention of putting $1800 or so on it and then spending the rest Jan 1 to get 50K miles toward a Companion Pass in January. Based on the amount of business travel I do with a new job, that would put me at Companion Pass mileage by June 2016. Unfortunately, a trip to San Antonio where Uber and Lyft are banned had a shady cab driver steal my credit card info and spend $250 a couple weeks ago, pushing me over the $2,000 limit, and the 50K miles were deposited into my account for this year late last week, completely messing up the plan.
Since neither Southwest nor Chase will revoke the miles and apply them when I really *do* spend $2000 on the card, I've accepted that the scummy driver has left me with a year less of Companion Pass - the best I can do at this point is to hope to get a pass this year, good for 2016, instead of 2016 and 2017. :-/
This puts me in the following situation: I currently have 74,058 qualifying miles, leaving me with ~36,000 miles to get in the next 2 weeks. I have a trip coming up tomorrow that will earn me 4954 miles base. If the RR credit card 2 points / dollar spent on SW purchases counts toward companion pass qualifying, then that's another 956, leaving me at 30,090 points to get CP.
(I'm not sure if the 2 points per dollar on the Rapid Rewards card count - could someone please clarify? I see in the FAQ that Chase Ultimate Rewards transfers to SW don't count, nor do the "promotional bonuses for flights," but I'm not sure if those are the same thing as the Rapid Rewards card points).
By booking through RocketMiles for my hotel this week, I can get another 3,000, taking me to ~27000 miles needed.
Beyond that, I have 15,812 Marriott points banked that I don't mind using. If I understand correctly, you can convert 30K+ Marriott Points to SPG points at a 3:1 ratio, so I could spend another ~$200 on card and purchase another 15K Marriott points, to convert over to 10,270 RR points. Provided those count toward the Companion Pass (FAQ said they do), that puts me at 16,730 miles needed.
At that point, I'm blanking on options to get additional points. So a few questions:
1) Does all of the above add up? Does anyone see any issues (e.g. when points deposit, time to get purchased Marriott points or to transfer them, etc.) that's going to make the above to get me down to 16,730 unattainable within the next couple weeks?
2) What are my most affordable options for the remaining 16,730 points to qualify for Companion Pass by EOY?
Definitely an unpleasant surprise to find out that the plans were shattered by this scumbag taxi driver with so little time to prepare. I'm going to keep reading the FAQs and other threads, but since time is of the essence, wanted to get a jump on my options! HUGE thanks to anyone that can help me sort out my options!
