I'm sorry to say, but I think you are the one who does not understand what nux is saying.

As an example, just two weeks ago I've booked a ticket from Cathay Pacific (CX) to fly from Helsinki to Tokyo. It is altogether 6 flights, but only 3 of them are operated by CX, while two operated by Finnair and one by DragonAir. This means I actually have 3 reservation numbers for this one reservation.

When using ANY of the three I can see the full itinerary, BUT can only select seats for my Finnair flights if I use the "ghost reservation" number that belongs to Finnair and not the main one from CX.

Just like nux, I'm also sure that there is ANOTHER reservation number for Qantas Using that number you'd be able to log-in to your reservation on Qantas' website and select your seat.

Unless you have a Oneworld frequent flyer card with any of the member airlines (in which case all the reservations should show up in your account automatically), the only way for you to figure this number out is to TALK TO YOUR TRAVEL AGENT.
