DH has been using tie-wraps for years to lock our luggage. BUT, keep in mind that you're going to need a sharp object to cut it open.
Since you can't carry those items on board anymore, it makes getting your suitcase open, uh, interesting. Needless to say, our suitcases haven't been tie-wrapped since.
You can buy them anywhere. DH is in telecom so he brings them home by the boatload. Everything in our house that needs to be tied up gets tie-wrapped - even if it doesn't have to be secure
