Brussels Airlines and EU 261 delay compensation

Two weeks ago, I flew ABJ-BRU-YUL. ABJ-BRU was on Brussels Airlines and BRU-YUL was a codeshare operated by Air Canada. The ABJ-BRU flight was delayed 24 hours due to a technical fault, which meant I ended up arriving in YUL 24 hours late. Brussels Airlines paid for a hotel and meals while I was waiting in ABJ, so no concerns there. When I arrived in YUL, I contacted Brussels Airlines using their webpage and asked for compensation for the delay. I have not received a response from them other than an automatically generated email when I submitted my request.

Am I entitled to compensation here? I assume that I am since the delay was caused by an EU airline flying to the EU. But my origin and destination were outside of the EU.

If am I entitled to compensation, what is the best way to go about claiming it? Do I contact Brussels Airlines again? Wait a bit longer? Attempt to escalate my request?
