Checked in yesterday. SNAs came through and got a Junior Suite. Was initially offered an Ohana Family Suite but asked to swop since a double bed did not appeal to the Mrs. In any case, the Junior Suite was more than big enough.
The junior suite was ok, in Bldg No.2. It included a murphy bed and also a separate shower which is a bonus in the US. However, shower water pressure was pisspoor. Also, the tap for the tub shower was confusingly and dangerously labelled. What some/many might think to be hot water was actually cold and vice-versa. Bed was very soft, the softest I've slept in 3 years; my wife and I actually sank and we're typical 5'6" type Asians. Complimentary water was on demand at the bellhop station but they seemed to be controlling the supply; there seemed to be a reluctance to supply more than 2 bottles at a time.
Chose breakfast as the plat amenity and was told by the FD and then the resto that the Plat breakkie amenity was for the full buffet and not just the continental. Frankly, the full breakfast buffet was disappointing. Limited cereal offerings with only Kellogs products and granola without any muesli and just one cereal milk option (2%). Hot stuff was nothing special: sliced portuguese sausage, bacon and very dry scrambled eggs. There were eggs made to order, but did not partake.
Did not dine at the hotel on arrival day, but went to Whaler's Village. Made mistake of not making reservations so ended up at the Food Court. Very expensive. Prices at the Hulu Grill and Leilani's were comparable to hotel in-room dining prices.
Went snorkeling at the beach and saw a couple of what we assumed to be the resident sea turtles.
In general, prices in Maui seemed almost comparable to parts of Western Europe, especially after conversion to SGD.
We will be here for another 5 nights.
