I used to go to the Valley (not a valley, but that's what Rio Grande area is called in Texas) in spring and overnight on Mexican side. Those trips as well as Tijuana are pretty much history for me now - same reason I try to avoid connecting in China: get yet another stamp in my passport.

VERY few gringos in Tijuana, many souvenir shops turned into coffee shops with what looks like young local patrons. American young people used to go drinking alcohol, and some of those establishments are gone as well.
