Although not real high on my list of desirables, if it is missing on a semi permanent basis that would change the award landscape significantly.

Yeah, and fixed it has been not.
Its more of a pain for AC Aeroplan booking, as CA is one of the carriers that doesnt attract YQ, something UAMP dont have to worry about.
And as for CA - it is a very good J product, sure its not BR or SQ, but its decent enough - much better than UA/AA - and if you get a widebody in Asia, it will have a flat bed. Their F suite is excellent, again much better than the joke of F that are AA/UA
