If those 20 are separate, then yes -you will have to get 20 different apps.
But if the processor is common (MCX, Level Up, etc) then you use common app.
I'd rather prefer NFC, but my phone locks up often when I use Android pay... Obviously, there is no issue with using Level Up QR code.
