I used to regularly fly LAX LHR and SAN LHR. British flew out of SAN, Virgin out of LAX.

In Economy, I preferred Virgin. It had the in-seat on demand entertainment system and generally better food. British Airways was running an older 777 out of San without the entertainment system. Not sure what they are running out of Chicago. I suggest you check on Seatguru.com
