We stayed here at thanksgiving last year. We also had many bug bites, but quite certain they were sand flea bites, not bed bugs. Your doctor must have powers of deduction that few can match as diagnosing bed bug bites (versus any of the many variety of mosquitos or fleas or ants or spiders) from a visual inspection is pretty much impossible. Not all mosquito bites look the same. Also, particularly for bed bugs, the bites will look very different on different people to the point where for two people sleeping in the same bed, one will appear to have had an infestation while the other may not show any bites at all.
If you wake up in the morning and there is blood spots on the sheets or you actually find the bed bugs, then that is the issue, otherwise, it is pretty much a guess. The fact that you were in two different buildings would suggest that the issue was not bed bugs.
