Where you live affects the calculation. If you live in Atlanta or Detroit you have to spend a fortune to get Delta's attention. If you live in Houston or Dallas you can garner attention by spending a lot less. I know some UA Global folks in Houston who spend well under 100K that Delta wooed with offers of 360. If you live in a Delta hub city you will fly Delta - if you live in. UA hub city you will be far less likely to fly Delta. Perhaps unfair but that's the reality.
You left out MSP, which I think is the toughest of them all. My Wife's boss spent close to $200k (She is a VP, and travels in Business everywhere) last year and didn't get an invite, while her co-worker that lives in Chicago got an invite with about 80k (flying in coach, unless upgraded for free).
