TRIP REPORT: The Peace Lodge & Four Seasons Peninsula Papagayo (Costa Rica)

We had been thinking about Costa Rica for a while and wanted to do it as a family, but we had read it might not be appropriate for a child as young as 4. We worked very hard to select the right hotels and experiences for our son and can honestly say it was a huge success. The Peace Lodge allowed us to visit a true rain/cloud forest and made the creatures of Costa Rica accessible to our son. And the Four Seasons offered us a dry forest (with the sun and the beach) and a wonderful kids club.

Initially, we were going to drive the 4.5 hours between the two resorts, but we thought our little guy would enjoy the Four Seasons (Prestige Wings) helicopter transfer instead. He absolutely loved the first 10 minutes, but the windy conditions got the better of him and it was a good thing our pilot had an air sickness bag on board. The helicopter transfer also turned out to be more trouble than it was worth as we spent far more than four hours trying to find, and get to, a safe departure point. More on that later.
