Great topic, Abby! My negative experiences in hotels are disproportionately represented by adjoining doors. I like the PremEx rules of booking requests. I have always requested 1&2, 3,4,5&6 I don't get too excited about one way or another, but 7 will now be included in advance booking notes. For some reason, I never considered the option of avoidance by request-just always accepted it as luck of the draw. But no more... As for smoking, that is totally unacceptable in a non-smoking room. I am a casual cigar smoker myself, but never in any building except in my own garage. As such, I would not want to be subjected to anyone elses 2nd hand, even if it was a Cohiba! Of course that sentiment has been conditioned by living in Bay Area of Northern California where child molesters are viewed with higher regard than smokers
