Connecting Doors in Hotels - Do you hate them, too?

I recently stayed at a Westin in San Diego that had a connecting door and every word that was said in the room next door could be heard clearly in mine. I was fortunate that my neighbours were not loud or late night people, but it was still very annoying. It felt like I had strangers in the room with me...

Do other people hate these doors as much as I do? How do you deal with it when you are given a room with a connecting door and the noise is obviously coming through? Do you ask for a new room w/o the connecting door, or do you ask the front desk to try and block the door more effectively or do you just put up with it?
