Question Linking two one-way award tickets to get freebie third one way?

Hi all,

We're trying to get to Asia this summer on business saver tickets.

Our ideal itinerary is:
SFO -> SIN
XIY or PEK -> ICN
ICN -> SFO

I know if I booked these at once, they'd do it. But right now, there's only seats on the last two legs from ICN -> SFO and XIY -> ICN

But the first leg, SFO -> SIN, doesn't have good availability. Is it possible to book the last two legs and then have them add on the first leg for me?

I tried calling and asking, but the customer service person was confused but said there's no way to link two one way tickets into a roundtrip ticket, which made it seem like this may not be possible.

I'm just worried that by waiting on the SFO->SIN leg, we may lose out on the rest of the legs (and there's a very good chance that no seats will open up on the SFO -> SIN leg anyway!).

Any thoughts? Perhaps booking the SFO-> SIN in economy and then changing later? My husband is Premier Silver, so no charge for him if we change at least 21 days out, but I don't have status, so I'd pay $75.

Any advice from the super knowledgeable flyers on here would be greatly appreciated!
