Just got back from a weekend stay here. I was initially pretty worried about the negative reviews in this thread, but I'm happy to report that everything went really well here.

Got into PWM late on Friday night around midnight and used Uber from the Jetport to the hotel on Fore Street, about $15 each way. The driver mentioned that Uber was still pretty new in the area.

Location, like others have reported, is right on Fore St. in the Old Port, across from some of the (from my impression) seedier, meat-market clubs and bars in the area. It was still pretty loud about 12:30 PM on a Friday night, so if you are in one of the street-facing rooms (even numbers), I could see it being loud.

We were upgraded to a pretty big suite on the 7th (top) floor on the odd side of the building. This room was unlike any Hyatt Place room I've ever seen. It had a separate living room-area with couch and TV in addition to a pretty big King-size bed room with its own second TV. Doors in between the rooms. The bathroom was standard new-build HP with shower (no tub) and the towels actually in the shower - why hotels do this, I have no clue. This room type wasn't listed on the hotel website, only "Balcony suites," and we definitely didn't have a balcony.

Good Diamond treatment here, probably the best I've experienced at an HP. Warmly welcomed and very quickly checked in and upgraded (didn't even ask for a credit card and ID). Offered free bottles of water at checkin - hope that wasn't my Diamond amenity, as the front desk person did not ever ask about that, but I find that's pretty standard at HP's.

Breakfast was a typical HP mob scene with rubes and families just milling about aimlessly. I'm not sure what it is about cheap hotel breakfast that leads people to be vultures with no sense of spatial awareness. The coffee (and I typically do like Seattle's Best) was especially awful. Whatever, I've come to expect those drawbacks at Hyatt Places, so I knew that going in. One thing I found strange was that breakfast only goes until 9:00 AM here on weekdays.

I should also add: no problem with late checkout, even 4 PM. Inquired at the front desk on the morning of our departure, and it was granted without any argument. Further outstanding Diamond treatment here.

Gotta say I strongly prefer the other Portland, but the Cascade Station HP is not nearly as nice (facility or location) as the Old Port HP.

Overall, a really excellent stay and totally worth it on Points+Cash at 6k points and $75 a night. Location is excellent, and we didn't have any noise issues at all. This is probably the most enjoyable Hyatt Place stay I've had.
