I am assuming you have American citizenship now. I think the only advantage would be upon entering the EU from outside the EU. Traveling between countries within the EU is or will be fairly seemless. I don't see what an EU passport gives you that an American passport does not, except in some sensitve countries due to US politics, such as the middle east, etc.
