I asked about switching to AA's VCE-PHL-LAX. The agent typed for several minutes and put me on hold a couple times. At one point, she claimed there was no PHL-LAX availability (but presumably they could put me on VCE-PHL ). Finally, she said no way, since AA's flights were on a different pricing band?? Manager wouldn't budge either despite my mentioning EC261. I think the root cause was no AA award availability.

The manager did buy me full-fare VCE-LGW flights, since there was no award space. So I suppose I can switch in my AA # and earn a few miles.

At one point, I toyed with changing LAX-LHR-LAX to LAX-LHR-Asia since I already have Asia-LAX booked later in the season. There was award space - would this idea have flown?
