Enjoyable read! Virgin first class is very good - free booze, ok food and generally helpful staff. Would like to try East Coast or GwR Pullman service one day to compare. Being based in the Midlands, I can say Virgin West Coast is miles ahead of Cross Country (the other big intercity operator here) First Class - 8pm departure from Manchester "service has finished for the day but can I get you a soft drink?" Compared to Virgin on the 23:10 from Birmingham to Euston on a Friday night with full bar service and food service.
