Like others, I agree with you. However, these fees are not imposed by Starwood. They are set by the owners of the hotels and have nothing to do with Starwood. Where we should be complaining is when we must pay them on point stays.
Starwood should however require that these fees be included in the display price of the room, especially when comparing rates.
This is simply a way for the properties to advertise artificially low rates. I do hope a class action with severe penalties hits the property owners at some point.
