I am more of an "aged" linebacker and my broad shoulders - and more importantly my back, which ends up taking the burden of sitting in a twisted geometry for however long the flight is - just don't like being squeezed.

Perhaps Gordon Bethune had it right when he said "most people would rather have an empty seat next to them than extra legroom" as explanation for why CO didn't offer extra legroom seats. CO did block lots of forward coach seats for Elites, resulting in lots of empty middle seats in the forward part of the economy cabin, something I appreciated. Now there are times when I would prefer an aisle in the back with an empty middle instead of having an extra legroom seat with all three across being occupied. But there is no way to know in advance how it's going to work out.
