If you have WGA you are going to have to pay upto Anytime if there is space or even to stand by. I've never had them flex on the upgrade without extenuating circumstances.
I doubt they will let you change for free unless the 9:20 PM flight is delayed greater than a half hour.
I've gotten the upfare waived when only 15 minutes' delay was showing, because we all know that the final delay is likely to be 30 minutes or more.
No delay posted on the booked flight = no break on the upfare. This becomes further upsetting when the delay is posted after the earlier flight has left. Most delays do occur that way, too.
Southwest is not the right airline for people who want cheap same-day changes to an earlier flight.
Thank you both for the quick replies. It's a big price difference ($50 vs $225) and a 5 hour difference so I'm conflicted about it.
Any other suggestions on how to maybe get a break on the price of getting an earlier flight?
