Need advice on Puerto Vallarta travel next week (Hurricane Kenna)

Hurricane Kenna is forecast to hit the west coast of Mexico this Friday, just north of Puerto Vallarta, with forecasted maxiumum winds of 95 mph. I am scheduled to travel to PVR on Thursday of next week (a week from tomorrow).

Unfortunately I have not booked a connecting flight to my departure city (ORD), and I have not yet changed my return date (for PVR-ORD), which I need to do in order to take this trip. So right now I am faced with the decision of laying out funds for the first and last legs of my trip (to/from ORD), as well as the ticket change fee, versus bagging the trip in light of the hurricane.

If the hurricane hits PVR as forecast on Friday, what will the situation in PVR be 6 days following? Is a 95-mph hurricane strong enough to likely close the airport and hotels for an extended period?

Thanks in advance for any advice.
