I agree that Malaysia is underrated. KL isn't worth going out of the way for (but it's certainly no more boring than Singapore) -- just has the bad luck of not being one of the main stopover to Australia cities. Langkawi and Borneo are stunningly beautiful, and I'd pick them over much of Thailand.
