Bringing this thread up to ask the question, how bad are the hotel rooms that allow smoking? I can tolerate some smoke in a room unless it is very, very strong.
I don't think I've had many (any?) bad experiences. I'm a smoker, so I do like getting smoking rooms, but I don't like rooms that actually smell of stale smoke. >.> I tend to stay in fairly inexpensive business hotels, FYI. As others have mentioned, though, it can be a bit of a crap shoot. Old(er) hotels, with a long history of smoking rooms with poor ventilation, are probably going to be worse.
