Driving TPA-MIA would generally be a four hour affair; IMO, the OP might be better served by driving to Orlando, as the MCO-MIA-LAX would be $1,132 one-way leaving MCO at 2:45 pm with just over a one hour connection at MIA.

TPA-MCO is a relatively short, easy drive.
