I think its safe to assume that your standard waitlist will clear before a saver waitlist. As for how reliable the waitlist function is, it's a crapshoot. SQ is perfectly content to fly with empty seats. Best bet is to call SQ and ask them to send a chaser. I would think you'd have a good chance to clear (assuming they don't sell out) considering it's a standard redemption.
