If you head over to the waitlist thread, it's really luck of the draw unless you're some sort of PPS. I've had a waitlisted award clear on SQ26 while I was on the way to the airport to go on SQ326 and I've had them not clear even on R4. People have reported success with calling SQ and asking them to see if anything can be done.
