Good thing that you phoned as I suggested. At least that saves stress on the day of departure. And as for short checking bags ADL-SYD, I'm sure it has been tried before. Likewise, having an international BP is no help as there are many examples of people refusing to travel after clearing immigration (air side) and wanting to go back home without leaving the country - either having a full fare refundable ticket or just forfeiting the cost of the ticket.
