So far, I second the Madrid suggestions. If you like seafood, I also recommend the paella.
We really liked the ice creams there. El corte inglés is a big department store in which you can buy almost anything that you could need and souvenirs ( They had god prices). I haven't been in Barcelona yet but I have my next Spain trip planned for the summer so I can benefit from the Barcelona tips too.
