I was able to build in stopovers in DFW with no problem without raising the price. Fare rules allow those, I 'll post them below.
BTW, don't rely on Matrix with these. Matrix shows much higher prices in the initial overview but goes down once you click through to a specific day. Very disappointing.
Hell, I`ll go and book another one of these for a work trip to LAX by stopping over in DFW/MIA/JFK and just buying a separate DFW/MIA/JFK-LAX return ticket for under $200 - more miles, EXP requalification bagged by April, seeing my fav. band in Rio on the way - all that for half the cost of a regular, direct ticket to LAX!
And these aren't mistake fares and I`m pretty sure they'll stick around for awhile. AA has to compete with all those carrieres with direct flights, and as those have slashed their prices as well, the customer profits, for the moment anyway.
I just came back from a GRU trip on AA, and I`ve never seen those 77W business cabins so empty - less than half of the seats were filled. Economy was equally empty - we got a whole row for ourselves all the way.
Looks like the Brazilian economy really took a nosedive, and I`m sure the 77W will vanish from these routes and capacity gets adjusted when this persists for much longer...
