I agree. I carried our small laptop in a sleeve our last two trips to Europe. Returned out of Rome the first one and Athens the second. Security could have cared less about PreCheck on our boarding passes and I didn't expect they would. In both cases they asked that I take the laptop out of its sleeve. They did have a secondary security at the gate in Athens but they were stacked up with bag checks. We were waved through with just a glance at our passports but without them looking at our boarding passes so PreCheck didn't come into play.
