"Linking" simply means that an agent entered a note in each PNR. It means nothing for any purpose other than alerting another agent who happens to bother to read the PNR notes if there is a manual rebook in IRROPS (which is less and less likely) and if it's manual, you are there to point out that you are traveling together.
