The OP is trying to save about 900USD by doing this trick over a simple return from AUH. Only if he knew the NO SHOW for BAH-BKK component is 50USD which he will have to fork out prior to refunding the ticket. And that his status means nothing.
And only if he knew he could have saved another 600 dollars by making it a simple return from BAH with long layovers in AUH.
