Adequacy of telling "newbies" )or anyone else) to do a "search"

Notice how often when a person asks a question that has been asked in the past, one of the first responses is, "Have you done a search"? (Rather than providing info...)

For example, if someone wants to know how service is, say LAX-LHR on NZ in F, and the response is, "Use the search thing"... it's really not that helpful

Why?

1) Sometimes the most recent report is 3,6,12 mnoths old. Things might and do change.

2) A new(er) FT member who has experienced the service in question may be able to respond accurately

3) It's elitist of old(er) FT members
