There have been known issues with the system since its implementation. But the FAs that complain about it have done nothing to either pressure the company and/or union to get it fixed. To give you an idea of where they are coming from, these are the same FAs that when they are unhappy with union leadership, just moan and groan about it instead of doing something to change it like actually voting in an election, running for office, etc.
Complaining publicly is "doing something." Apparently the scheduling system is run by a contractor, so if AA FA's put pressure on management/union leadership, then the latter are going to put pressure on the contractor to fix its screw-up. The fact that AA is offering bonuses to work the screwed-up schedule makes it sound like very little can be done to fix it at this point.
Anyway, at the end of the day, I can't blame the FAs for lashing out, even if one sees it as a futile gesture. FAs are human, after all. If I was reasonably certain I'd get certain time off because the rules work a certain way, and then I found out that the rules weren't properly applied and I have to work, I'd be annoyed too. Imagine what we'd do if a glitch shuffled the u/g lists. It would be apocalyptic!
